I have to confess that these are all digital paintings. I used an app called Fresh Paint to make them. They feel so lively and new, reinvigorating me.
Tell me honestly, did you look at them thinking they were digital or did you assume they were actually paint on canvas?
I'd really appreciate knowing!
Hi, Deb.. Nice to see you. I thought these were acrylic or guache. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHey Jo, thanks. I hoped they would read as paint! I think it's a pretty remarkable little app. Glad you like them. :)
DeleteI love your art am so glad to have discovered you. I'm a Christ follower and author just heading into semiretirement, recently picking up art again after many years of writing and book editing. I've fallen in love with pastels, enjoy playing with them, but have so much to learn. I'm currently reading through your blogs and other online writings. Your love for God is inspiring. May He continue to bless you. P.S. I would have guessed they were painted on canvas.
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you, Diane. It's always great to meet another believer. Have you found my book, Landscape Painting in Pastels? The Lord asked me to give it away, and I'm pleased to know it's encouraged and helped a lot of folks. It's a fun medium, that's for sure. Enjoy--and blessings.
DeleteI was trying to figure put if you had left gouache for acrylic. It read as paint, but somewhat gaudy.🙂 Can the color be tweaked?
ReplyDeleteHi Pilgrim. No, I haven't left gouache, I'm just really busy as a caregiver and the ease of using this app has seduced me. :) The color palette offered is gaudy--maybe even garish--and I'm just learning how to mix it, so thanks for that observation. Of course, I always wonder how different computer monitors show the color, so the best we can do with digital paintings is to make it look as right as we can on our own computer. I think I'll print a few of these and see how they look IRL, then take photos to compare. That will probably be a litmus test for me. I calibrate my monitor, of course, but not everyone else does. But having said that, I have to admit I have always loved highly saturated colors! In pastel I would often grab the brightest deep blue ever made and use it pure and simple in a sky, so some of this might be purely esthetic. Thanks again.
DeleteYou're welcome.🙂 I love your bright colors in pastel and gouache! I am also in a caregiving situation. Illustrated journaling is a good outlet. I have no idea how to calibrate a monitor.
DeleteHi Sis Deb...Praise God for honoring and glorifying Him trough your God given talent. My interest lately is drawing and painting but sometimes i cannot fully focus because of some commitment like ministry or BS etc..but when i read your blog i know now how to share the word of God through this art platform.Thank You!God Bless you more!
ReplyDeleteI'm blessed to know this. Thank you and God bless!
DeleteHi Deb! So good to see you painting again. I knew these were digital but only because I was a digital painter for years. Otherwise, I would have thought it was acrylic. Isn't digital fun? You can do it anywhere with no fuss or muss and it does look much like traditional media! Plus, you can actually practice so that if you decide to use traditional media, you already know how to do it. Love what you do in any media!
ReplyDeleteHi Jan. I know what you mean. You can spot digitals when you do enough of them! I love not having to set up or take down my materials, and being able to sneak in a quick painting when the idea or mood strikes me. I never realized how often I sort of mentally or visually paint something, trying to record it in my mind's eye for when I get out the paint. Of course, nothing will take the place of real paint for me in the long run, but this is a lot of fun! Thanks for the encouragement!
